The Scoop

There are still lots of remains from Montana Mountain’s mining history, but some of the most interesting are the old stone houses. Most of these were built around 1905 when the silver rush was at its peak. They were constructed as offices, bunkhouses and cook houses for the miners working on the Big Thing and Mountain Hero mines. The houses have mostly fallen apart, but the remaining structures are a striking reminder of the people who used to live and work on the mountain.
